thinking

Steve Hanks Art - Thinking It Over
Have you ever wondered which hurts the most: saying something and wishing you had not, or saying nothing, and wishing you had?

Ooh, very thought provoking question you've posed. For me personally, it's the things I've said that I cannot take back.

I love the comment you left for me: "...Something about having baby birds around that causes 'hope' that has been long buried, rise to the top." Simply perfect!

Cherries and ice cream sound delightful! I ate about 2 cups of local strawberries today. Yum!

I think it depends on the situation - for the most part, I think it hurts more to say something and regret it (and I confess, I have done my share of that). I think it's always wise to hold words back that will hurt or wound another (and that I have also been guilty of). That's the thing about life; hindsight is always clear and vivid.

I think words leave our mouths too lightly, just flying n their way out. I guess it's more often that they hurt when they should be held back. There are situations of course, when something should be said but isn't. I still think the first probably hurts more.

I think I agree CC, saying that thing that can't be taken back may be harder. At least when we leave a thing unsaid and wish we had said it, it didn't leave scars on another person's heart. But I have done my share of both, and I regret both.

Ah, thanks! I'm glad you liked the comment. :) When you think about all the natural elements that are against them, it is amazing they ever make it.

I've had so many strawberries this year, that I am sure my skin is turning a permanent shade of red.:) They have been delicious this year!

Hi, Minka! I think I totally agree with you! Words are likes poison arrows and once shot, they can't be pulled back.

it hurts more to say something and regret it... our tongues can be the sharpest & deadliest weapon...

Of course! Both! Now my question is shall I comment here and what shall I say? :-)

For me it's the saying something and wishing you had not that hurts more and stays with a person longer. Just my experience speaking here.

Lenore, they are indeed. But on the upside, they can also be a healing balm, soothing and healing to the the body and soul. Thanks for visiting. xo

Peter, (lol) no worries, you can say whatever you want. I'm a big girl and I can handle it.:) I agree with you, it is both, but...a different kind of pain I think.

Di, I was reading a book by Max Lucado, and I can't remember which one it was - but he said in the book, there is no excuse for ever saying anything hurtful to a person. I've tried to remember that; however, I have not always succeeded. You are right, it stays with us forever.

this is a really good question...i'm torn because there are things i deeply regret saying but i can see how withholding kind words and love from someone could be just as damaging. what if you loved someone and they never knew? so sad.

One thing is for sure, telling another that we love them can never hurt. We may not be loved back, but those words will never hurt another. But unfortunately, both hurt! Thanks for dropping in this morning.

that's definitely a tough one. i think they're both awful! it's hard to know when to say something and when to keep your mouth shut. it's just part of the lifelong process of growing up, i guess!

Both hurt, differently. But it seems to be the things I regret saying that haunt me the most.
