Tis The Season

Nothing is better this time of year than filling your house with the aroma of spices and cooked apples and your mouth with a delicious bite of puff pastry that will melt in your mouth and cooked yet crunchy apples and raisins. This is one of my favorite things to cook...and eat. Nothing is simpler than this recipe and it is as good as a piece of apple pie, just easier to make. And the great thing about it...NO sugar added. :)

My favorite apples to use are Fuji; they cook up nicely but retain their firmness. And they have a sweetness about them when cooked that is...perfect in my opinion.

I add some vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice, and if I have one, I grate a little orange rind and squeeze in a little orange juice. I throw in a few raisins to the mixture. I never measure the spices, but I am liberal with the cinnamon. I add a little water, bring it to a quick boil and then turn down the heat a little. Cook until the apples are cooked, yet a little firm and the water cooks down to almost syrup.

Spoon over cooked puff pastry. (I buy frozen puff pastry). Sprinkle with a little bit of powder sugar over the apples - EAT and ENJOY!!!

Hi Sixpence,

Isn't that a beautiful combination, apples with cinnamon.
Your pie looks delicious ~ we had apple crumble for dessert last night and the smell of it cooking was lovely.

Happy week

Yum! We've been eating & cooking apples like crazy this fall. I have 1/2 bushel of Mutsu's in the fridge right now. Hope you're doing well girlie ;-)

Hi Gail, isn't that the truth, love those fall and winter smells filling the air. :)

Drollgirl, it really taste too good to be so easy.

Carolyn, something about the smell of spices in the house that makes me feel all warm and cozy inside.:) I love baking, but I do not eat a lot of sweet stuff, that makes it hard to bake very much cause there is no one to eat it. This is nice, you can do a couple of apples at a time and it's like having fresh pie everytime.:)

Hey Marsi, it's a great time of year for cooking. I love making applesauce and apple butter, I can't eat the store bought stuff. Apples are such healthy treat. Thanks for the visit, it is nice to see you. *hUgS*
