One & Only

This may be my one and only zucchini for the year. My plants were beautiful, and more blooms than you could count. They just did not produce anything other than this one. And, I think it may be a cross between a yellow squash and a zucchini, not sure. I am still thrilled to have had this one to enjoy, it was delicious! I never fry anything, but thinking this would be the only one, I thought it was time to live a little. I promise you, I enjoyed every single bite. It was really big and I was afraid it would not be good, but boy oh boy was I wrong. I do now have a lot of little ones now growing on the vines??? I fear it is already too cold and late in the season for them to make it to the eating and enjoying stage.

Hi Christina! Yes, things taste even yummier when you grow them. :) I live in the city and do not get to grow as much as I'd like. And this year, things did not grow so well. Thank you for visiting. xOx

Re: Goldfish, how deep is your pond? Here, they winter over in eight or ten inches...I don't know how cold it gets there.

We place a large stick or small log in our water and when it freezes, we wiggle the stick to make an air hole. The ammonia gas build up is what kills them, I think.

You can always bring them in to an aquariam if you acclimate them to the water...float them in a bag of their water until the temps level.

Gail, thanks so much! I'll think about getting an aquarium, but I have never had any luck having fish live in them. I'm in KC, so I think it gets colder here than where you are. I wish there was some kind of solar heating device I could use, but I don't know of any. They are really beautiful and I feel sick that I may lose them. They were a lot of work this summer, I washed the filter every day. If I knew anyone who had a large pond I would give them to them, even though I would hate giving them up. Thank you for the advice. xOx
