more bits and pieces

My playing photographer is just a distraction at the moment. A family member passed away last night and though expected - as he had been battling pancreatic cancer - it is always a hard thing to lose someone. So, I think this (playing photographer) has been a nice distraction, helping me to divert my thoughts a little bit.

Here are a few more pics from around my home. As you can see I do not have a particular style - a little of this and a little of that...and things that reach out and grab hold of my heartstrings. I like things that have paint peeling, nicks and scratches and bumps and bruises. I can't stand for things to match - As long as things are eye pleasing to me that's all that matters. I like things that had a life before me, a story to tell. Everything in my house...has a story to tell.

I collect billiard balls, yes, for real.

Let me ask you something, what is not art? ~Author Unknown

A few religious pictures I collected while living in Europe.

Posting this picture because...I like it. The metal piece is something I found while running and I have no idea what it is.

A lovely antique silver tea pot.

Love the peeling paint.

A Curtis Jere sculpture that has no special spot to call home, yet.

A few of my restaurant pieces. I love to use them for serving.

A favorite painting.

Life is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the paint on it you can. ~Danny Kaye

I bought this picture in Germany. I absolutely LOVE it!!!

I made this picture from stamps.

Another picture I created from stamps.

Can't remember where I found this beautiful picture, but I love it!

One of my favorite antique mirrors.

Another religious picture I bought in Germany, it is so very calming... and quite large.

Love these - they're fun.

European basket covered wine bottles I bought in Europe.

Antique frogs, another European purchase.

Aren't they adorable? Talk about puppy eyes...

Just a few books. One day I'll take pics of my book cases.

I collected these in Germany, they are decoupaged postcards on wood.

Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful. ~William Morris

I hope I haven't bored you all too much. :)

Lenore, those valleys can get darn HOT, I'm here to tell you.:) The view and air is most lovely!

A PJ party sounds like a brilliant idea! I need sleep first.:) Which I am going to go do here really very soon.

Have a wonderful night! xoxox

I am so sorry for you and your family. I have lost to very close family members to pancreatic cancer, so I know how difficult a time this must be for you. Again, my deepest condolences to you and your family.

I'm sorry for your loss. It's never easy, even when expected.

And as for your post--Not boring at all! I feel like I've been on a home tour, and you're such a gracious hostess!

Everything is just divine, but a few things really jumped out at me: your creative stamp art (beautifully framed too), those adorable frogs & dogs and I love ALL the framed art.

Thanks for sharing so much. It is truly inspiring.

I'm so truly sorry for your loss sweetie. Knowing someone you love will be lost to you soon still doesn't prepare you for when it happens, or make it any easier. My thoughts are with you and your family.

I envy your Curtis Jere sculpture, and I just love that yellow painting and the painting you found in Germany!

Yay! You're sharing more!
I'm loving so much of it, too!

But first, let me say that I am deeply sorry for your loss. Even when you're expecting it, it's not easy. The good thing is that he's no longer suffering.

Now, about your decor... LOVING it! Those billiard balls in the jar totally "speak" to me. As a matter of fact, I just filled a big apothecary-type jar with nothing but marbles. Glass and lots of color, two of my favorite things!

Your stamp art is great! It reminds me of Nick Bantock's work. Are you familiar? He's best known for his Griffin & Sabine series of books. Check it out, if you haven't already.

Your home is certainly interesting, just like you! Thanks for giving us a peek.

Rick, I appreciate your visit. Thanks for the compliment on the photos. As you can see, I am no photographer.:) Have a great weekend! xoxo

Kim, It is so nice of you to stop by. Love the comment! Thank you. xoxo

Minka, actually, I don't have a large home, I just have a lot crammed in - which makes for a lot more work, but that's ok. Thanks so much for coming by. I'll try and get by to visit some blogs today. The funeral is not until Monday, so still lots going on. xoxo

Christina, thanks so much! Hope you're having a wonderful weekend! xoxo

Dustjacket, Thank you! And thanks so much for the nice comment. xoxo

Des, I appreciate you thoughts. Thank you for the visit. xoxo

Erin, what's a home without tons of books?:) And I do have tons. I think I now have all my decor books in one spot, until I find a loner hanging out somewhere.:) xoxo

John, I'm glad I haven't bored you all too much. So much in my home has sentimental value, not so much monetary value.:) The stamp pictures, as simple as they are, I have always really liked them. For a strange reason, I get attached to things I make.:) Have a wonderful weekend. xoxo

Slices of Beauty, thanks so much! xoxo

John, Thank you for the lovely award. Just maybe I'll find time to post it on my blog today? You really are a sweet man! xoxo

Monica, Problem with them (billiard balls) they are heavy.:) I really love the colors though. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. xoxo

Hey Sweetie, How are you? I'll try to get over to your blog today and see what is going on with you. How's married life? :)
Thank you for the kind words and thoughts.
I love the Curtis Jere sculpture also. It does one one small limb broken off on it, but you'd never know it. Thanks for the compliments! xoxo

Anthony, Thanks you!

Hey, I think we may like some of the same things. I have marbles in jars! I think I like anything with lots of color.

Yep, I've heard of Nick Bantock. I have every single book of his. Absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE his work and writing. I have 4 sets of Griffin and Sabine, in different rooms - so I can read them anytime. And believe me, I have worn out a couple of sets. I am addicted!!! I've even bought the set for friends over the years. None seem to enjoy them as much as I do.:)
Thank you so much for all your sweet, loving comments. Reading them is like a ray of sunshine on a cool day.
You and Tommy have a great weekend! xoxo

Namaki, I've considered hanging some things from the ceiling.:) It depends on your style if I have enough room or not - Some would say NO! I say YES!:) Thanks for stopping in. xoxo

What a lot of lovely photos of all the things around your house.
Very interesting lot of treasures.
Loved the idea of the stamp picture.
I saved stamps when a kid and some of them really need to be displayed as they are so lovely.

Thanks for visiting my blog and taking the time to comment, much appreciated!

I am sorry to hear about your family losing a loved one...definitely never an easy time no matter what the circumstances.

Lots of lovely pieces you have decorating your home! Especially the button balls, the basket bottles and the Bohemian bedroom...sounding rather B B to me!

I actually love the peeling paint one too...but that's P P so it didn't fit the list and had to be mentioned separately! LOL JK of course, just happened that way! :)

Hi Six~ I'm so sorry about the death in your family and send you prayers and light. i love your profile portrait! as well as the beautiful photograph on your header. Your eclectic taste has made your home very charming and colorful. I like your religious icons and portraits. (I have been collecting Mary Magdalene prints for my wall--interesting how she's depicted so differently in different times and places.) I love the yellow cubistic painting--so warm, the third chakra, your identity, self. And the glass bowl of billiard balls--wonderful! I like how the eight ball is the most prominent! Many, many interesting things to see! Thank you, Six. btw, I left you a comment. LOVE xxox

Hey Six! Good to be back with creative souls such as you!
I'm sorry about your family member...
My father died of pancreatic cancer in 1999, and it took him fast... cancer in general runs rampant in my family and has taken three in the past five years.
Moving on... It is a deep part of my own personality that loves the "a little of this and a little of that" approach to life. You can see it in my tiles. Love your shots... I think we're a lot alike, these things are interesting and pull at me as well!

Hello there, I am sorry to hear about the loss of your relative. Photography is a great healer. You look like you are enjoying it. I particularly like the green vase with peeling paint.

Photography saved my husband from a two year long disability where the pain was so bad he was in tears most days. He has now reinvented himself as a professional photographer and his stuff is terrific.

What exquisite taste you have!
I adore the green vase, her
fragile state makes her more
beautiful. The white china is
something my Mother collected
when I was a child. And the
vase filled with shells is a
beauty. Also, the painting of
a Mother/Saint kissing her
baby is breathless.

Boy, have I ever been missing in action here. Don't know what happened, I moved my own blog to Posterous [http://quackofdawn.com] and for the moment I don't have a real list of blogs that I read there. However, I've straightened up my Google Reader, which has become much better lately, so things will change from now on.

I'm truly sorry about your loss. Pancreatic cancer..that's terrible.
