Picture Perfect

When I looked out the window late yesterday evening, this beautiful sunset is what I saw. It changed fast; reminding me how quickly time passes - and at the time, we seldom see it. Living right in the city makes it hard to get good photos, there are buildings on all sides. I was pretty happy with these from my little point and shoot camera.:)

The Time Traveler's Wife

Two friends from Bosnia Herzegovina gave this book to me and I loved it. Being the gushy romantic that I am, I found this book to be just the kind of story that carried me far away to a land of romance, adventure and intrigue - a kind of fairy tale that doesn’t happen in real life.

When I heard it was being made into a movie, I was ecstatic. It comes out August 14th and I can’t wait. Having said that, the clip is a little disappointing for me, it doesn’t fit the images I had created inside my head, but isn’t that the way it is with books and movies. No doubt, I will love it anyway - being the hopeless romantic that I am.

If you have not read this book I do recommend it!

friday happy moments

Some simple things that made me smile on Friday.

...that I can plant something and it actually produce. My Rhubarb that I planted last year, it is doing so well this year.

I planted these beautiful sunshine flowers last year from seed. I will forever be amazed by flowers.

I can't help it, I love 'RUST'! Anything rusty is beautiful, IMHO.

I know you all are probably sick of seeing pics of my day lilies, but they are so beautiful. I can hardly hold back the tears when I look at them.

Hollyhock I planted from seed last year. The color is brilliant; a true eggplant color - Stunning to behold.

I don't know if it is because of where these are located in the yard or what, but the color is so bright and bold that you can almost taste it.

Well, I don't eat many things with sugar in it, at least not very often, but yesterday, I made myself a root beer float and topped it with whipped cream and nutmeg. OMG, it was so delicious! This is a very small glass, so it wasn't so bad.

what can i say

Ever thought that every decision you've ever made was the wrong one? Ever thought that you'd like to get on a plane and go to a new country and start over as a different person?

Unpretentious Beauty

A couple of years ago this plant was not doing so well on the outside of the fence, so, I moved it. Last year, there were no blooms but this morning, it presented a lovely surprise; and beautiful it is! Along with some, (what I think to be great shots) are some nice quotes to go with the photos.

Beauty is how you feel inside, and it reflects in your eyes. It's not a physical thing. ~Sophia Loren

When you look closely people are so strange and so complicated that they're actually beautiful.

The greatest treasures are those invisible to the eye but found by the heart.

For every beauty there is an eye somewhere to see it. For every truth there is an ear somewhere to hear it. For every love there is a heart somewhere to receive it. ~ Ivan Panin

By plucking her petals, you do not gather the beauty of the flowers. ~Tagore

new course

“We lead our lives like water flowing down a hill, going more or less in one direction until we splash into something that forces us to find a new course.”--Memoirs of a Geisha

lift not the painted veil

Some movies, like some people, without your consent, without invitation, without understanding, seep through the cracks and the intangible parts of your soul, finding a way under your skin and into your heart and mind... and there they remain, permanently. Maybe the story, the storm, maybe the person was there all along... but suddenly for whatever unknown reasons, your inner soul awakens to this mysterious presence...

The Painted Veil ~ A great story of love found, lost, and found...

Lift not the painted veil which those who live
Call Life: though unreal shapes be pictured there,
And it but mimic all we would believe
With colours idly spread,--behind, lurk Fear
And Hope, twin Destinies; who ever weave
Their shadows, o'er the chasm, sightless and drear.
I knew one who had lifted it--he sought,
For his lost heart was tender, things to love,
But found them not, alas! nor was there aught
The world contains, the which he could approve.
Through the unheeding many he did move,
A splendour among shadows, a bright blot
Upon this gloomy scene, a Spirit that strove
For truth, and like the Preacher found it not.

~Percy B. Shelley

six uninteresting things that make me happy (tagged by kate)

I was tagged by Kate to list six uninteresting things that make me happy. Though I am not very good at these tag things, I will attempt this one. I am not going to tag anyone, but if you would like to do this, please do. Not listed in any order and there are so many things I love, it was hard to pick only six.

1.) Flowers (Especially the ones I can get to grow. This is one of my roses that has bloomed this year).

2.) That first cup of coffee in the morning.

3.) Nature (all of it. I took this photo last summer).

4.) Old things (I love the secrets that are embedded deep in the soul of 'old things'. I bought this lovely piece of copper from an old man in Turkey, who was a vendor on the street).

5.) Hats (All kinds - One of my many hats).

6.) VW Bugs (though I do not own one now, it was my favorite car. I’m thinking I want another one, they are so much fun to drive, ...and they make me smile).

What makes you smile???

night moon

Beauty is a form of genius--is higher, indeed, than genius, as it needs no explanation. It is of the great facts in the world like sunlight, or springtime, or the reflection in dark water of that silver shell we call the moon. ~Oscar Wilde

lingering

Morning, by Maxfield Parrish

There are days when I feel I do not belong in this world... When my soul feels ancient, my thoughts lingering in another place and time. Times when I feel connected to another I do not know - Still, I know!… Some days I feel like a tiny boat lost at sea in the storm, drifting to shore, the wrong shore.

I cried for you - Katie Melua

You're beautiful so silently
It lies beneath a shade of blue
It struck me so violently
When I looked at you

But others pass, they never pause
To feel that magic in your hand
To me you're like a wild rose
They never understand why

I cried for you
When the sky cried for you
And when you went
I became a hopeless drifter
But this life was not for you
Though I learned from you
That beauty need only be a whisper

I'll cross the sea for a different world
With your treasure, a secret for me to hold

In many years they may forget
This love of ours or that we met
They may not know
How much you meant to me

I cried for you
And the sky cried for you
And when you went
I became a hopeless drifter
But this life was not for you
Though I learned from you
That beauty need only be a whisper

Without you now I see
How fragile the world can be
And I know you've gone away
But in my heart you'll always stay

I cried for you
And the sky cried for you
And when you went
I became a hopeless drifter
But this life was not for you
Though I learned from you
That beauty need only be a whisper

thinking

Steve Hanks Art - Thinking It Over
Have you ever wondered which hurts the most: saying something and wishing you had not, or saying nothing, and wishing you had?
